I was immediately drawn into the story and the setting and felt like I was there with Evie as she was uncovering the truth.If you get your hands on WHAT I SAW AND HOW I LIED, be prepared to be sucked into the 1940s and be up reading all night. Schon nach den ersten paar Seiten kam es mir vor, als würde ich den Roman zu einem alten amerikanischen Film lesen.Evie ist fast 16 und hat nur einen Wunsch: Sie will endlich erwachsenen sein und vor allem von ihrem Eltern wie eine Erwachsene behandelt werden. Als die Familie nach Palm Beach fährt fügt sich daran noch ein weiterer Wunsch an: Evie will Peter lieben und von ihm geliebt werden.Ihrer Eltern jedoch sträuben sich völlig dagegen, in ihrer Tochter eine Erwachsene zu sehen, unterstützt wird Evie nur von Mars Grayson.Erst mal muss ich sagen, dass das Buch erst ab der Hälfte etwas spannend wird, davor kam es mir ein bisschen wie das Aufzählen von verschiedenen Vorkommnissen vor. Das einzige, was mich wirklich überrascht hat, war die Wendung, die die Handlung genommen hat, nachdem der Hurrikan den Urlaubsort heimgesucht hat.Und auch wenn Evie einige sympathische Momente hatte, so ganz warm geworden bin ich mit ihr nicht. Sie ist ein naives junges Ding, dass sich nur nach Lippenstift, Stöckeschuhen und verbotenen Küssen sehnt. Erst gegen Ende hat sie mich wirklich überrascht, jedoch nicht nur im positiven Sinne. Denn ich kann einfach akzeptieren, wie leichtfertig Evie dem Hoteljungen Wally die Zukunft verbaut um ihren Eltern den Hals zu retten.Insgesamt ist "What I saw and how I lied" ein Buch, das ich gern gelesen habe - gerade die Nachkriegszeit in Amerika war literarisch etwas ganz Neues für mich. Deshalb möchte ich es denen, die diese Zeit interessiert, empfehlen. Aber, ganz ehrlich: In meinen Augen ist das Buch nichts, was man unbedingt gelesen haben muss.------------------------------------------BewertungNichts Weltbewegendes, aber eine solide Geschichte über ein junges Mädchen, das Seite bekennen muss.
